aKardiyoloji Kliniği, Türkiye Yüksek İhtisas Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, bHematoloji BD, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Physicians are confronting most frequently with nutritional anemia. Anemia of systemic disease and its related side effects are described most frequently within renal and cardio-renal anemia. Beyond its adoptive positive impact, progressive anemia will increase cardiac insufficiency symptoms and interfere with treatment modalities and patient’s performance status. Anemia is not only a bystander at cardiac failure but various cardiovascular disorders may also cause hematological problems. Macroangiopathic hemolytic anemia (travmatic) after valvular replacement and side effects of cardivascular drugs causing secondary hematological problems like anemia, thrombocytopenia and leukopenia are among these problems. On the other hand hematological disprders may cause cardiac problems. The main entities are hereditary and acquired hemolytic anemia, hemolysis and transfusional iron overload. Hereditary and acquired thrombophilia and antiphospholipid syndromes require an hematology and cardiology collaboration. Bleeding tendency is another hematological disorder, in which hereditary and acquired coagulation factor deficiencies are main entities. Chronic myeloproliferative disorders, plasma cell dyscrasias, and hematological malignancies may cause cardiac involvement or secondary cardiac problems. Hematologists and hemato-oncologists using chemo-, radio-, or immunotherapy, and high dose therapy in hematopoieitc stem cell transplantation are observing early and late cardiac complications with an unneglible frequency. Main issues are anthracyclin and radiotherapy induced cardiotoxicity. Before radio- and chemotherapy cardiologists and hematologists should discuss the patients and conditions in a unique platform with standard cardiological assesment measures. We wish that this review serve both to cardiologists and hematologists at reaching the target of developing a sensitive and reliable consensus between two clinical branches. Keywords: Hematology, cardiology, anemia, drug therapy, coronary thrombosisTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2007, 3(33):56-65
