Anthracycline Cardiomyopathy

The commonly used and highly efficacious anthracycline antibiotic anticancer agents doxorubicin and daunorubicin produce a dose-related cardiomyopathy that may limit their clinical application. Although the diagnosis of anthracycline cardiomyopathy can be made clinically, the definitive diagnosis depends on the demonstration of a substantial number of cardiac myocytes exhibiting the characteristic anthracycline effect. The prognosis of anthracycline cardiomyopathy is poor, It depends on numerous factors; the age, prechemotherapy and the time of the last dose of drug.
