aKardiyoloji ABD, Kocaeli Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, KOCAELİ Dilated cardiomyopathy is characterized by dilatation and impaired contraction of one or both ventricles. Affected patients have impaired systolic function and may or may not develop overt heart failure. The most common causes are ischemic cardiomyopathy and genetic cardiomyopathy, which is now recognized to be relatively common among patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. There are a lot of disorders which can cause secondary dilated cardiomyopathy. The disease is considered idiopathic if there is exclusion of ≥50% obstruction of one or more coronary arteries or a primary or secondary form of heart muscle disease. In this review, particularly idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy is discussed and etiology, clinical presentation and management of dilated cardiomyopathy are summarized. Keywords: Dilated cardiomyopathy, etiology, autoimmunityTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2007, 3(24):11-18
