Invasive Approach In Stable And Unstable Angina Pectoris; Coronary Angiography And Revascularization Strategies

aKardiyoloji AD, İstanbul Üniversitesi Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesi, İSTANBUL The significant increase in incidence of the coronary artery disease and improved availability of catheterisation facilities has resulted in a dramatic change in management approaches. The focus in management is shifting from medical treatment to invasive treatment. Coronary angiography still holds a fundamental position in the investigation of patients with stable angina, providing reliable anatomical information to identify the presence or absence of coronary lumen stenosis, define therapeutic options (medical or revascularization), stratify cardiovascular risk and determine prognosis. Two revascularization strategies; coronary artery bypass grafting and percutaneous coronary intervention are facing rapid development with the introduction of ‘’off-pump’’ surgery and drug eluting stents. As a result of this rapid development in revascularization modalities as well as in medical management, many questions in the management of angina remain incompletely answered and further questions are generated. Therefore, constant revision and updating of this progress in cardiovascular medicine is a necessity for clinicians. Keywords: Angina pectoris; coronary angiography; myocardial revascularizationTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2007, 3(15):87-94
