Dr. Göknur TEKİN,a Dr. Alpay Turan SEZGİNa
aKardiyoloji AD, Başkent Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Platelet activation and aggregation and thrombus formation are central to the pathophysiology of unstable angina and greater understanding of these mechanisms has lead to improvements in treatment. Antithrombotic therapy is essential to modify the active disease process and prevent its progression to death and myocardial infarction. The current recommendations for the antithrombotic treatment of unstable angina pectoris non-ST elevation myocardial infarction includes; aspirin, heparin, clopidogrel and adding glycoprotein IIb/III inhibitors in patients with high risk features. Additionaly recent trials indicates the superiority of direct thrombin inhibitors especially bivaluridin over heparin derivatives in the treatment of acute coronary syndromes. In this article the efficacy and the use of these agents except glycoprotein IIb/IIIa will be summarized. Keywords: Angina, unstable; myocardial infarctionTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2007, 3(15):70-77
