Dr. Serhat Bahadır SÖZEN,a Dr. Hakan ÖZHANa
aKardiyoloji AD, Düzce Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, DÜZCE Cardiac syndrome X is a clinical entity with chest pain, angina with no flow-limiting stenosis on coronary angiogram, and a positive stress test. There are many unknown areas on this topic. Although many different mechanisms were blamed (abnormal coronary flow reserve, insulin resistance, abnormal autonomic control, increased sodium hydrogen exchange, abnormal chest pain perception, microvascular spasm, estrogen deficiency…) exact cause could not be found. Recent studies emphasized that a dysfunctional vascular endothelium that leads an increase in coronary resistance related decrease in arterial vasodilation is a possible explanation. The goal of this review is to discuss the relevant information for pathogenesis, diagnosis, and therapy for the patients with cardiac syndrome X and variant angina. Keywords: Angina pectoris, variant; microvascular anginaTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2007, 3(15):44-49
