Rest and stress echocardiography are used in the emergency department for the diagnostic work-up of patients with chest pain. Echocardiography also provides important information on systolic and diastolic ventricular function in patients with acute coronary syndromes.Evaluation of residual ischemia and of myocardial viability after acute coronary syndromes can be done with stress echocardiography.Echocardiography should be an integral part of the diagnostic and prognostic evaluation of patients with acute coronary syndrome.
