Mechanical Complications Of Acute Myocardial Infarction
Dr. Hakan KÜLTÜRSAYa
aKardiyoloji AD, Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, İZMİR Severe left ventricular myocardial damage during the course of acute myocardial infarction may lead to the development of various mechanical complications. Amongst these complications, most frequent one is cardiogenic shock due to left ventricular pump failure which has considerable high mortality. The treatment of cardiogenic shock is basicly medical, however it may require surgical intervention. Severe mitral insufficiency, development of left ventricular aneurism and wall rupture constitute the other leading mechanical complications depending on the severity, extension and localization of myocardial damage. They usually cause severe and fatal clinical outcome and their treatment requires surgical intervention. Keywords: Myocardial infarction; aneurysm; shock, cardiogenic; complicationsTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2007, 3(7):12-15
