Dr. N. Bülent BOYACIa
aKardiyoloji AD, Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Heart failure can be caused by ischemic, metabolic, immune, inflammatory, infective, endocrine, genetic and neoplastic processes. Left ventricular dysfunction caused mainly by myocardial infarction is the the most common underlying problem and also it is the single most important predictor of mortality following STEMI. Cardiogenic shock is the most severe clinical expression of left ventricular myocardial dysfunction. A patient with acute heart failure requires immediate diagnostic evaluation and care, resuscitative measures to improve symptoms and survival. Patients with acute coronary syndromes or other complicated cardiac disorders should undergo cardiac catheterization and coronary angiography to evaluate the proper way of therapy, invasive intervention including surgery. Keywords: Acute coronary syndromes, acute myocardial infarction, acute heart failure, cardiogenic shockTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2006, 2(42):34-38
