aKardiyoloji Kliniği, Erzincan Askeri Hastanesi, ERZİNCANbKardiyoloji AD, Başkent Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA With the administration of fibrinolytic agents a substantial mortality reduction has been achieved in the treatment of ST elevation acute myocardial infarction. The most important predictor of the success of fibrinolytic therapy is the ischemic period. The shorter is this time the more myocardium is salvaged and the more lives are saved. Prehospital fibrinolytic therapy is used to shorten the ischemic period as much as possible. Adjunctive use of antiplatelet and anticoagulation treatments increases the success of fibrinolytic therapy. In patients who admitted early, fibrinolytic therapy seems to be as effective as primary percutaneous coronary intervention. Especially in the last two decades great improvement was obtained in this area and agents that can be administered in a single dose were developed. Keywords: Acute myocardial infarction, thrombolytic therapy, fibrinolysisTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2006, 2(42):20-28
