Pathophysiology And Clinical Evaluation Of Acute St-elevation Myocardial Infarction
Dr. Ali DENİZ,a Dr. Kudret AYTEMİRa
aKardiyoloji AD, Hacettepe Üniveristesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) mostly develops following rupture or erosion of vulnerable plaque. Unless early reperfusion treatment is started, necrotic region undergoes some changes called remodeling. Early and late remodeling results in ventricular dilatation, and left ventricle becomes spheric in shape. Although remodeling is an early compansatory change preserving cardiac output, it causes heart failure in long term. Patients admitting with the symptoms of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) may be diagnosed as having STEMI with initial clinical evaluation. Clinical follow-up in coronary care units may help us to detect mechanical and arrythmic complications of acute myocardial infarction. Keywords: ST segment elevation myocardial infarction, vulnerable plaque, pathophysiology of myocardial infarction.Turkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2006, 2(42):11-13
