Evaluation Of Conduction System With Electrophysiological Study
Dr. Özgür ASLANa
aKardiyoloji AD, Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, İZMİR Principal characteristics of cardiac conduction system such as automaticity, conduction and refractoriness are evaluated by electrophysiological study. Electrode-catheters are positioned at the appropriate sites in the heart and electrograms are recorded from the electrode pairs of these catheters. His electrogram can be considered as the main recording for the measurements of conduction intervals because atrial, His, and ventricular potentials are all recorded together by this catheter. Information about intra-atrial, atrio-ventricular (AV) and His-Purkinje conduction can be obtained from the measurements of PA, AH and HV intervals. Atrial pacing provides data for the evaluation of sinus node automaticity and sino-atrial conduction as well as both the refractoriness of atrium and AV junction and the dynamic properties of AV conduction. Ventricular pacing provides data for the evaluation of both the retrograde ventriculo-atrial conduction and the refractoriness of ventricular myocardium. Atrial and ventricular programmed pacing also used for the induction of arrhythmias. Keywords: Electrophysiological study, heart, conduction systemTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2006, 2(24):34-41
