Non-pharmacologic Approaches For The Therapy Of Hyperlipidemia
Dr. Aylin YILDIRIRa
aKardiyoloji AD, Başkent Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA There is a direct relationship between hyperlipidemia and atherosclerotic vascular disease. Control of lipid levels with diet or drugs decreases global vascular risk of the patient. However, in some patients appropriate diet and drug therapy are insufficient to decrease blood lipid levels to the desired targets mainly due to several genetic disorders, uncompliance and drug related interactions or side effects. In these patients some non-pharmacologic approaches are needed. This review summarizes the most common non-pharmacologic therapeutic approaches to hyperlipidemia including low density lipoprotein apheresis, partial ileal bypass surgery, liver transplantation and gene therapy. Keywords: Hyperlipidemia, LDL apheresis, liver transplantation, ileal bypass, gene therapyTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2006, 2(7):79-88
