Statins ın Hyperlipidemia

Hyperlipidemia plays critical role in the development of coronary atherosclerosis. Statins are show cardioprotective effects that influence endothelial function, inflammatory responses, plaque stability and thrombus formation. Statins are powerful pharmacologic agents for reducing low density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and are effective in decreasing coronary artery disease morbidity and mortality. In addition to their primary effect in reducing plasma cholesterol, the statins posses various pleiotropic effects for reducing cardiovascular events. Side-effects secondary to statin therapy are rare.
