Diagnosis And Treatment Of Metabolic Syndrome

The term metabolic syndrome refers to a clustering of specific cardiovascular disease risk factors whose underlying pathophysiology is to be related to abdominal obesity and insulin resistance. A proinflammatory state probably contribute to the syndrome. The metabolic syndrome has received increased attention in the past few years. The disorder is defined in various ways, but in the near future new definitions will be applicable worldwide. The increased risk for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease demands therapeutic attention for those at high risk.The fundamental approch is weight reduction, increased physical activity, and especially drug treatment could be appropriate for diabetes and cardiovascular disease risk factor.Keywords: Obesity, insulin resistance, aterogenic dyslipidemia, hypertension, cardiovascular diseaseTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2006, 2(7):21-29
