Low High-density Lipoprotein Cholesterol
Dr. Yasemin TURAN BOZKAYA,a Dr. Filiz ÖZERKANa
aKardiyoloji AD, Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, İZMİR Atherosclerosis is a multifactorial disease affected by both lifestyle and genetic factors. Despite the best efforts in reduction of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-cholesterol), most cardiovascular events are not being prevented. Population studies have shown a highly consistent, inverse correlation between plasma concentration of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. We summarize in this review HDL-c metabolism and currently available therapies for raising HDL-c.Keywords: High-density lipoprotein, lipoprotein, apolipoprotein A1, HDL metabolism, LDL- cholesterolTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2006, 2(7):10-17
