Using Criteria Of Cardiovascular Drugs During Pregnancy
Dr. Meryem AKTOZ,a Dr. Armağan ALTUNa
aKardiyoloji AD, Trakya Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, EDİRNE Cardiovascular drugs are often used in pregnancy for the treatment of maternal and fetal conditions. Most cardiovascular drugs can cross the plasenta and therefore expose the developing embriyo and fetus to their teratogenic effects. These effects are influenced by the intrinsic pharmacokinetic properties of a given drug as well as by the complex physiological changes occuring during pregnancy. Congenital malformations generally are caused by drug toxicity during the first trimester. Fetal development is the major potential hazard of drug exposure in the second and third trimestrs. Many drugs are also transfered into human milk and therefore can potentially have adverse effects on the nursing infant. Included in this literature are cardiovascular pharmacotherapeutic considerations during pregnancy. Keywords: Pregnancy, cardiovascular drugsTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2005, 1(50):72-80
