aRadyoloji AD, İstanbul Üniversitesi İstanbul Tıp Fakültesi, İSTANBUL Cardiac diseases are the most common cause of death in the world. Therefore, many studies are still carried out for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease. With the recent development and use of multislice computed tomography (MSCT) and fast magnetic resonance (MR) imaging sequences, CT and MR have become important imaging modalities in the diagnosis of cardiac disease. Selective coronary angiography depicts well the morphology of the coronary artery lumen, but because it is not able to give any information about the structure of the plaque causing irregularity in the artery wall, studies to evaluate the features of coronary artery wall pathologies with MSCT have gained importance. MR imaging, with its high spatial resolution has become a valuable diagnostic tool in cases where echocardiography, which is the most common screening procedure of cardiac disease is insufficient in diagnosis. Excellent anatomic details can be obtained with cine and real-time images in cardiac MR imaging. Additionally, the functions of both ventricles can be evaluated, information of valve morphology and function can be obtained and pericardial pathologies can be detected. Furthermore, perfusion studies can show the myocardial vitality. Keywords: Heart, multislice computed tomography, cardiac magnetic resonance imagingTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2005, 1(42):87-96
