Many advances have been made in the field of nuclear cardiology in the past decade for enhancing the diagnostic and prognostic value of the functional and metabolic imaging using SPECT and PET technology. An evidence-based approach to dagnostic imaging would still recommend the use of nuclear cardiology techniques in a large number of circumstances. At present, nuclear cardiology is the most widely used noninvasive approach for assessing myocardial perfusion and viability. The aim of this review is to give a comprehensive and broad vision of the current status of nuclear cardiology and of its perspectives in the near future to allow the recognition of its role in the imaging arena.Keywords: Nuclear cardiology, radionuclide imaging, SPECT, PETTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2005, 1(42):67-86
