Transesophageal Echocardiography: Technical And Clinical Application

Advances in the field of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), a flexible gastroscope-like device enabling ultrasonographic examination of the heart within the esophagus, proceed with multiplane probes. With the recently developed 3-dimensional TEE, better and more detailed morphological and functional examination of the heart will be possible. Since there is not any structure which may interfere the ultrasonographic examination between the heart and transducer, TEE is superior to transthorasic echocardiography anatomically.
