The cause is a sudden decrease in cerebral perfusion which resolves spontaneously. Syncope can be classified according to the underlying etiology. Cardiac arrythmia or structural heart disease, neurally mediated syncope and cerebrovascular disease are the major causes. Its prognosis changes according to underlyıng disease. The prognosis is worse in those with underlying heart disease than the others. Evaluation of syncope has been performed by clinical examination, noninvasive tests and electrophysiological study. ECG, which is a non invasive test sholud be obtained in every patient wirh the syncope complaints. During the investigation of the etiology of syncope, underlying heart disease, suspicion of arrhytmia and frequency of syncope are important for the selection of tests. Appropriate treatment strategy choosen for syncope should be planned according to the underlying etiology. Keywords: Syncope, heart disease, arrhytmiaTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2005, 1(7):55-66
