Epidemiology, Classification And Treatment Of Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial fibrillation is the most common sustained arrhythmia in adult population and is associated with significant morbiditiy and mortality. Treatment of atrial fibrillation must be decided according to the duration of arrhythmia, underlying clinical pathologies and individual characteristics of the patient. Evidence-based treatment strategies must be selected. Basic treatment strategies in atrial fibrillation are restoration and maintenance of sinus rhythm, control of ventricular rate and prevention of thromboembolic events. Non-pharmacologic methods should be reserved for symptomatic patients, in whom drug treatment is not successful.Keywords: Atrial fibrillation, epidemiology,
